Day 2 – Kathmandu to Kuringhat. After breakfast at the hotel transfer by bus to Kuringhat (3 hours’ drive). Our route f ollows the Prithvi Highway West of the city, joining and following the Trishuli River. Lunch and check in at Riverside Springs Resort – a tranquil oasis with a natural spring-fed pool overlooking a sandy beach. Afternoon bike familiarization and ride to Manakamana cable car (1.5km). Optional visit by cable car to Manakamana Mai temple, with views of the western Himalaya (weather permitting) returning to Riverside Springs for the night.
Day 3 – Kuringhat – Gorkha – Bandipur. After breakfast take a short (40km / 1 hour) ride to Gorkha with the opportunity to visit the ancient fortress and Durbar of King Prithvi Narayan Shah. Then continue for roughly another 40km / 1 hour to the village of Bandipur for an overnight stay. Enjoy the rural village setting and take a walk through the cobbled streets of this Newar community.
Day 4 – Bandipur – Pokhara. After breakfast ride (2 hours) to the lakeside resort town of Pokhara, arriving at our hotel in time for lunch. In the afternoon take a motorcycle tour of Pokhara including the Gurkha Memorial Museum, International Mountain Museum and Tibetan refugee settlement.
Day 6 Pokhara – Butwal. Ride South from Pokhara through the Mahabarat Lekh to the lowland town of Butwal (6 hours’ ride). The highway twists and turns through rural village scenery, crossing the Rapti River and emerging onto the plains of Nepal’s lowland terai adjoining the Indian border to the South. Check in and overnight at our hotel in Butwal.
Day 7 Butwal – Lumbini – Butwal. Full day motorcycle tour of Lumbini, birthplace of Gautama Buddha and sites related to his life (total distance 80 km). Our tour includes the site of the Buddha’s monastery at Kudun, with a picnic lunch in the ruins of King Suddhodana’s Palace (father of the Buddha). Return to our hotel for the night.
Day 8 Butwal – Chitwan. Ride East from Butwal along the Mahendra Highway, passing through rural villages and terai farmlandi, alternating with stretches of luscious sal (Shorea robusta) forest to Chitwan National Park. Check in to our hotel on the edge of the Park for two days and three nights of wildlife viewing.
Day 9 and 10 Chitwan. Search for Greater one-horned Rhino and Tiger from elephant back, by jeep and on foot, or take a boat ride down the Rapti river, looking for crocodile, otter and hundreds of water birds – with the chance of further wildlife sightings as the animals come to the river to drink and bathe. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, but enjoy the fun of the chase in this spectacular setting – a protected World Heritage site.
Day 11 Chitwan – Kathmandu. Ride back to Kathmandu (7/8 hours) over the Tribhuvan Highway with a stop for lunch at the hill resort town of Daman, offering spectacular Himalayan views. Tour ends on arrival at your hotel in Kathmandu. (Optional extensions available on demand).
